Allergies/Headache
Allergies:
One in five people suffer from some type of allergy either through environmental factors such as trees, grass or pollen or related to dust, mold or even pet dander. In Chinese medicine, allergies are considered a weakness of the respiratory or Liver function. Important in the process of respiration, the nose and throat are generally where we see the symptoms of allergies. A combination of acupuncture and Chinese herbs are used to strengthen the respiratory and immune function to reduce susceptibility to local allergens.
Step 1: Identify what is happening in the body through a series of questions relating to your individual symptoms to determine the unique pattern.
Step 2: Acupuncture points located in the wrist and chest will strengthen respiration and immunity
Step 3: Acupuncture points located over the sinuses will be accessed to reduce congestion.
Step 4: Individualized Chinese herbs will be prescribed to aid in the reduction of sinus congestion, reduce inflammation and address deficiencies in the immune system.
Headaches/Migraines:
More than 39 million men, women and children in the United States and over 1 billion World Wide suffer from migraines each year, making migraines the 3rd most prevalent illness in the world. Of that 12% of the population, the Migraine Research Foundation tells us that 18% are women, 6% are men and an astonishing 10% are children. That means, you or someone you know suffers from migraines.
While acupuncture can be used to relieve the pain of a current migraine, the most effective use of acupuncture is migraine prevention. Fine needles will be inserted into specific acupuncture points, and then often times manipulated in order to increase blood flow in the tissues through the axon reflex, to dilate the small vessels around the acupuncture point. For long lasting results, acupuncture supports “parasympathetic nervous system activity, allowing the body to maintain optimal heart rate, respiratory rate, and blood pressure, all of which can trigger a migraine when disrupted.”
Acupuncture can also help to relieve muscle tension which is often a cause of migraine pain by altering the electrical activity of the brain. Studies have shown acupuncture to be at least AS effective as prophylactic drugs in the treatment of migraine and headache symptoms with fewer adverse effects than medication.
