Cigna Out of Network Information

It is with a heavy heart that we regret to inform you that we will be going out-of-network with Cigna health insurance, effective June 1, 2021 September 1, 2021 (*we have received word, although unconfirmed  in writing by ASH/Cigna that this has been extended).   Cigna has decided to partner with American Specialty Health (ASH) to facilitate any and all claims for specialty services, including acupuncture, in the state of Maryland as well as other areas across the country.  This partnership forces acupuncture Providers like our practice to choose between: 

          1. Accepting into the ASH network and navigating a heavily complicated process for claim submission and receiving substantially reduced amounts for claims.      
             *Accepting into ASH effectively terminates any and all prior contracted rates with Cigna. 
          2. Or terminate their contract with Cigna and opt out-of-network. 
             

What does this mean for Cigna patients? 
          ● As of today, dates of service occurring on or after June 1, 2021 September 1, 2021, Holistic Health Associates will be out-of-network with Cigna. 
          ● Cigna patients will owe the 'self-pay' rate of $100/appointment due at the time of their appointment. 
          ● There is a possibility that Cigna will reimburse some of the cost to you, the patient! 
                    1. You will need to contact Cigna to find out if you have out-of-network acupuncture benefits and also what those limitations and rates are. 
                    2. Once confirmed, we can supply you with the necessary paperwork to submit your claim to Cigna yourself. 
                    3. Once accepted and processed, Cigna will send you a reimbursement check.

What are we doing? 
          ● Our Team at Holistic Health Associates is working hard to advocate for our patients. Taking great care of you is always at the forefront and heart of our practice. 
          ● We have contacted Cigna and ASH representatives, indicating our disapproval of this partnership and its effects.
          ● We remain as a solid team for our patients to help guide them through these uncharted waters.

What can you do? 
          ● As a client of Cigna, we urge you to communicate any disapproval to your insurance representatives!  Click here for a Sample Script you can use.
          ● If you receive your insurance through your employer, notify them right away and urge them to contact Cigna. 
          ● This is affecting specialty practices (acupuncture, physical therapy, occupational therapy, etc.) across the country with no clear advantages to the patients. 
                    - Benefits of participating/in-network providers are lost to Cigna patients for specialty services as more and more providers are dropping the network. 
                    - If ASH is paying a lower rate to accepting providers, is your insurance premium lower?
